Removing the badges from your car By Admin
Print Email
Most people tend to keep the round Saab badge on because removing them completely will require filling and a re-spray. Some customise them by covering them in film (eg carbon) or buy new already customised roundall badges off ebay and simply replace them. It is very easy to remove all other badges (to the rear and side) to get a 'cleaner' look to their car. These badges are not fixed with screws but held in place with foam double sided sticky tape and are therefore very easy to take off. The first thing to do is to wash the area in order to remove any dust/dirt. Obtain a hairdryer or heat gun and heat up the badge to be removed being careful not to heat the paint around the badge too much! The best thing to use to remove the badges is dental floss carefully slide it under to cut through the adhesive holding it and remove the badge. You will find that there some adhesive will remain on the paintwork but this can be removed with 'goo-gone' or with '3M adhesive / glue remover' or simply soap and water. Once all the surface adhesive has been removed go over the area with polish and wax. You will find that you may need to polish the area a few more times to obtain the same paint colour to match as there may be some fading particularly if you have a darker coloured car. My car is a silver 1998 9-3 and I didn't have any fading at all. If you do have some shadow, use coloured wax and the faded area should disappear after a few applications. Now admire your new sleeper Saab!
