Upgrading standard Saab dual-pass IC to the cross-flow Saab Viggen IC.
Print Email
First question to ask yourself... Are you going for more than 230bhp? If so the Viggen IC will struggle to cope. It’s pretty poor even for the Viggen it was designed for. However it is a lot better than the dual pass IC found in older NG900’s and 9-3’s and you can pick them up pretty cheap. What Saabs is the Viggen IC found on? The upgraded IC is found on Viggen models BUT is also found on ’99 onward SE HOT 9-3’s and turbo diesel (TiD) models. What hoses are required? IC to engine hose: IC to engine will require a new longer hose (47 29 968) or you can extend the one you have with the aluminium tube you’ll have left over from the turbo to IC on the original dual pass IC. Turbo to IC hose: If you have a T25 turbo, the only direct fit turbo to IC hose will be off the '99 HOT model. The Viggen hose (47 29 950) will fit but will require a little cutting as the turbo outlet direction is slightly different on the TD04 turbo. Any other hoses required? For NG900 cars you will need to replace the lower radiator hose (49 63 872) also. Buying these hoses new is expensive and in the US there is a waiting list. Try and find them at salvage/breakers yards or you can fabricate your own. If you do, make it a good job and clamp tightly because if the pipes blow off you’ll be stuck on the side of the road… NB: When you remove the turbo to IC hose you may find a little oil, this is normal and can be cleaned out if you’re doing a ‘proper’ job. |
